About us
As women with long-standing careers in K-12 education and youth development programs, we’ve seen too many kids struggle with success both during and after schooling. That’s why we founded Scholar’s First Academy LLC (SFA) back in March 2021. Our mission is to improve the academic options available to students of color by creating stronger tutoring and academic enrichment, both in-person and virtually. We are also excited to rapidly expand into development programs designed to provide workforce education and mentoring opportunities for youth 14-24 years of age.
As an organization founded and operated by women of color, we understand the additional challenges that minority and disadvantaged youth face in education and employment. For many years we’ve seen our communities left behind, a problem only exacerbated by the pandemic. We’re tired of seeing our kids treated like a number- it’s time to educate and support them as individuals.
SFA is dedicated to teaching, mentoring, and supporting students of all ages through our experiences and partnerships. Working together, we can close the academic achievement gap and give our youth more confidence and opportunity. Please reach out or explore our site to discover more about how we can help you.

Tinnisha Hutchinson-Nolan
Co-founder, CEO, Managing Partner
Tinnisha Hutchinson-Nolan leads all operational and day to day components of Scholar’s First Academy. With a BS in Business Administration, and more than 12 years of professional experience, Tinnisha brings plenty of experience in administering, organizing, and implementing new programs for students. These experiences include K-12 Charter Schools Operations Management in Los Angeles, as well as non-profit Management and Community Outreach with the various Boys & Girls Clubs in Wisconsin and Tennessee.
Through this work, Tinnisha has gained expertise in youth services operations, staff management, and youth mentoring and coaching. Just as importantly, she’s created a long-lasting rapport and impact with the students and families that enroll in our program. Tinnisha’s efforts help us maintain an organization that runs smoothly and efficiently while still accommodating the specific needs of the youth enrolled in our programs.

Summer Griggs
Co-founder, Educator
Summer Griggs oversees all instructional and academic curriculum in addition to educational training. She taught in Jackson, TN, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Nashville, TN, and Los Angeles, CA, earning over 16 years of experience in K-12 education. Her top priority in the classroom is creating a safe environment as well as providing valuable insight and knowledge.
Scholar’s First Academy (SFA), takes pride in providing equitable opportunities for students in academic enrichment. We are always exploring more pathways to invest in the future of the youth in our communities and taking time to refocus and hone in on our students’ needs. Our primary services currently include:
TUTORING
We provide personalized, in-depth tutoring services to help students of all ages. In particular, we focus on helping students who attend low-performing schools, and are performing at/or below grade level, to meet State and local student performance standards in core academic subjects such as reading and mathematics to include STEAM.
MENTORING AND EXTRACURRICULAR PROGRAMS:
SFA offers a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities, such as youth development activities, drug and violence prevention programs, character education and civic and justice-focused programs, mentoring and coaching opportunities. These programs are dedicated to aiding disadvantaged communities who have been left behind, particularly in the wake of the pandemic.
WORK AND SERVICE PROGRAMS:
Scholar’s First Academy has established community partnerships with organizations to assist youth with internships, apprenticeships and employment opportunities. We will provide workforce development and job readiness services and opportunities to youth ages 14-24 years of age. Youth that enroll in our programs will also enjoy exposure to community service projects and opportunities to complete community service hours.
